Study Session on Multi-Unit Residential / GreenTRIP

On Tuesday, September 1 at 5:30 p.m., City Council will hold a Study Session on Proposed Regulations, Incentives, and Guidelines for Multi-Unit Residential Development and Affordable Housing Impact Fee. The agenda can be found here.

Items to be discussed include:

-density
-unit-mix (i.e. studios and 1-bedroom units vs. 2- and 3-bedroom units)
-affordable housing
-rental vs. ownership (in terms of condo-mapping rentals)

If you have thoughts on these issues, I encourage your participation either in person or by communicating with your council members. Contact information for my colleagues and myself can be found here

I am excited about discussing with my colleagues the possibility of adding GreenTRIP certification standards to our requirements for future multi-unit residential developments.  Incorporating GreenTRIP could effectively: reduce vehicle trips, reduce greenhouse gases, make walking and biking safer, incentivize transit use, and give flexibility to developers to create more usable space for people rather than cars.

More on GreenTRIP certification can be found here.

A recent article in the East Bay Express that highlights the benefits of GreenTRIP can be found here

Fight for 15

With direction given by City Council at a study session on April 7, 2015, Emeryville is poised to pay its lowest wage workers $15/hour by 2018.

This morning, I stood with former labor secretary Robert Reich and Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf at 45th and Telegraph, in support of those among us who struggle to get by.

I am grateful today that Lift Up Oakland has changed the regional conversation. And I'm grateful to Mayor Ruth Atkin, who changed the conversation right here in Emeryville.
